Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sliders

Buffalo Chicken Sliders

Buffalo chicken is a popular dish in American cuisine, rooted in the city of Buffalo, New York, where the famous Buffalo wing was first created in 1964 at the Anchor Bar by Teressa Bellissimo. The concept of combining spicy Buffalo sauce with chicken quickly became a hit, and it has since been adapted into various forms, including the Buffalo chicken sandwich, pizza, and dip.

The slider, a small sandwich typically served on a soft bun, originated from White Castle in the 1920s. The term "slider" referred to the ease with which the small burgers could be consumed, "sliding" down the throat. Over the years, sliders have become a popular party food, offering a versatile platform for various flavors, including the beloved Buffalo chicken.

The Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Slider is a relatively modern creation, combining the tangy, spicy flavors of Buffalo chicken with the convenience of a slow cooker and the bite-sized appeal of sliders. This dish reflects the growing trend in American cooking towards slow-cooked, easy-to-prepare meals that don’t sacrifice flavor. It’s a popular dish for game days, parties, and casual gatherings.

How to Prepare Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sliders

Ingredients:

2 lbs (about 900g) of boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 cup of Buffalo wing sauce (your choice of brand)

1 packet of ranch dressing mix

2 tablespoons of unsalted butter

12 slider buns

1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

1 cup of coleslaw (optional)

½ cup of blue cheese dressing (optional)

1 tablespoon of chopped chives or green onions (optional, for garnish)

Procedure:

Prepare the Chicken:

Place the boneless, skinless chicken breasts in the slow cooker.

Pour the Buffalo wing sauce over the chicken.

Sprinkle the ranch dressing mix evenly over the top.

Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on low for 6-7 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.

Shred the Chicken:

Once the chicken is cooked, use two forks to shred it directly in the slow cooker.

Stir the shredded chicken well, ensuring it soaks up all the Buffalo sauce.

Add Butter:

Add the 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter to the shredded chicken and stir until melted and fully incorporated. This adds richness and mellows out the heat of the Buffalo sauce.

Assemble the Sliders:

Split the slider buns and toast them lightly if desired.

Spoon a generous amount of the Buffalo chicken mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.

If desired, top the chicken with shredded cheddar cheese, a spoonful of coleslaw, or a drizzle of blue cheese dressing.

Place the top half of the bun over the chicken.

Serve and Garnish:

Arrange the sliders on a serving platter.

If using, sprinkle chopped chives or green onions over the sliders for a pop of color and flavor.

Serve immediately.

Preparation Time:

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 6-7 hours on low or 3-4 hours on high

Total Time: 6 hours 10 minutes to 7 hours 10 minutes (depending on the slow cooking time)
